The primary and most accurate method is by connecting the app via Wi-Fi to your boat's NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000 network (a Wi-Fi gateway is required). This allows the coach to receive high-precision, real-time data directly from your onboard instruments, such as wind sensors, speed logs, and chart plotter.

While NMEA integration unlocks the full power of the AI Coach, it is not strictly required. In its absence, the app can operate using your mobile device's internal GPS and sensors to provide valuable baseline metrics like SOG (Speed Over Ground) and performance tracking.

You upload your boat's polar diagram file directly into the app. The AI Sailing Coach uses this data as its performance benchmark. It then calculates your real-time target boat speed and optimal TWA for the current wind conditions, giving you a precise, professional-grade target to aim for.

The advice is direct and actionable. Based on the live NMEA data and your polars, it will give you audio prompts like: "Target speed is 7.2 knots, you are at 6.8. Try a deeper trim." or "Optimal VMG is on a heading of 045. Steer up three degrees." It can also make recommendations for sail changes based on the wind speed crossing a threshold you define.

No. The connection to your boat's NMEA network is a local Wi-Fi connection. All data processing and AI analysis happens on your device. You do not need a cellular or internet connection while sailing.
